establish a fintech innovation hub capable of attracting the next generation of global financial talent
The Challenge
In the rapidly developing Longhu Financial Island, envisioned as the financial heart of central China, Donglong Group set out to create more than just another office building. As a state-owned enterprise with strong institutional roots, the organization wanted to establish a fintech innovation hub capable of attracting the next generation of global financial talent.
This ambition posed a unique challenge.Traditional financial institutions often carry a strong sense of formality and hierarchy, while the fintech industry thrives on agility, collaboration, and youthful energy. Donglong’s vision required reconciling these two worlds-creating a workplace that maintained the gravitas of a state-backed financial leader while simultaneously feeling open, dynamic, and appealing to innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology-driven talent.
Located within the circular masterplan of Longhu Financial Island-built around a central lagoon and surrounded by financial institutions-the project also had to anchor itself meaningfully within the broader urban narrative. The building needed to reflect the identity of a financial powerhouse while contributing to the evolving ecosystem of business, culture, and innovation on the island.
The core challenge therefore became: How could a large-scale financial campus be designed not as a static corporate building, but as a living environment that attracts talent, encourages innovation, and embodies the future of finance?

building-an ecosystem where nature, technology, and human interaction coexist
The Solution
The design strategy approached the project as a living organism rather than a conventional office building-an ecosystem where nature, technology, and human interaction coexist.
Inspired by the defining feature of Longhu Financial Island-the surrounding water-the design narrative draws from the symbolic and spatial qualities of water: transparency, movement, and reflection. In Chinese philosophy and Feng Shui, water represents prosperity and abundance, making it a powerful metaphor for a financial institution shaping the future economy.
This concept informed the spatial experience throughout the campus.
At the entrance, the lobby establishes a technology-first arrival experience. Mirror-polished stainless steel, high-transparency glass, and light-reactive surfaces mimic the fluidity and depth of water, creating an environment that shifts with light and movement. Instead of a traditional reception desk, a coffee bar acts as the central touchpoint, reinforcing an open and welcoming atmosphere while enabling a fully digital visitor experience.
The building’s social heart emerges in the shared atrium spanning the 12th and 13th floors, where the metaphor of flowing water becomes spatially tangible. A sculptural spiral staircase cascades between the levels like a stream, encouraging movement and interaction between floors. This central gathering space is designed to spark informal conversations, intellectual exchange, and spontaneous collaboration-essential qualities for a fintech innovation ecosystem.
The design also carefully integrates biophilic and cultural references to strengthen the connection between the building and its urban surroundings. Water-inspired ceiling forms, reflective materials, and visual sightlines extend the presence of the nearby lake into the interior, creating a seamless dialogue between nature and architecture.
Beyond everyday workspaces, the project introduces a series of multi-sensory environments designed to foster business relationships and knowledge exchange. On the top floor, the Entrepreneurs’ Salon offers a suite of curated spaces-including a lakeside lounge, library, business salon, painting and calligraphy room, movie room, and wellness zone. These environments blur the boundaries between business, culture, and leisure, providing settings for high-level discussions, creative thinking, and informal networking.
Technology integration forms another critical layer of the design strategy. By mapping the day-in-the-life journey of employees and visitors, smart building features were strategically embedded throughout the space-from digital arrival systems to seamless workplace interactions-ensuring the campus functions as an intelligent, responsive environment.
Together, these layers transformed the project into a dynamic workplace ecosystem designed to support innovation, attract talent, and connect people with place.

a workplace that feels fluid, open, and future-ready-qualities essential for attracting a new generation of financial professionals
The Result
Donglong Fintech Park now stands as one of the defining anchors of Longhu Financial Island-a financial campus designed not just for work, but for innovation, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
By translating the symbolism of water into architecture and experience, the building establishes a strong identity rooted in both Eastern philosophy and global fintech ambition. The result is a workplace that feels fluid, open, and future-ready-qualities essential for attracting a new generation of financial professionals.
The integration of nature-inspired design, collaborative environments, and intelligent building systems has created a workplace that actively supports interaction, creativity, and business growth. Employees and visitors move through a sequence of experiences-from dynamic social hubs to quiet contemplative spaces-mirroring the flow and adaptability required in the financial technology sector.
Sustainability was also embedded into the project’s foundation. The campus achieved LEED Gold certification alongside China’s 2-Star Green Building Label, validating the alignment between Donglong’s forward-looking vision and a responsible approach to design and construction.
More importantly, the project successfully resolved its original challenge. Rather than a traditional corporate building, Donglong Fintech Park functions as a living ecosystem that connects finance, technology, culture, and people-positioning Zhengzhou as a rising hub within China’s fintech landscape.
In doing so, it transforms architecture into a strategic tool-not only shaping the future of work, but helping define the future of finance itself.
